Your rent is
being reported.

Your landlord or property manager works with Octopus Capital Group to report rent payments to the credit bureaus. Here’s what that means for you, and what you can do.

Keep paying your rent the way you always do. Octopus doesn’t collect your rent.

What gets reported

Late payments

If rent is 30 days or more past due, it is reported to the credit bureaus. When you catch up, your account is updated in the next monthly report.

On-time payments

On-time rent is reported only if you sign up. It can help you build credit with a bill you already pay. Sign up here.

Check your credit report for free.

You can get free credit reports from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion at AnnualCreditReport.com, the official site for free reports. Your rent tradeline will show the property and your payment history.

Something looks wrong?

If you think your rent was reported incorrectly, tell us. We’ll review it with your landlord and respond within the time the law requires, and correct it if it’s wrong.

You can also dispute directly with the credit bureau that shows the information. Learn more about your rights at consumerfinance.gov.

Questions tenants ask

Will this hurt my credit?

Only rent that is 30 days or more late is reported as late. If you pay on time and sign up, reporting can help your credit.

Do I pay Octopus?

No. Keep paying your landlord the way you always do. We only report the payment history.

Is signing up for positive reporting required?

No. It’s your choice. You can stop it at any time by contacting us.

Why did I get a notice about this?

Tenants are told in writing before reporting begins. Your notice explains which property is enrolled and when reporting starts.

How do I dispute something?

Call or email us with your name, property address, and what looks wrong. Have any receipts or records handy.

Online payments aren't available yet

Online payments and account lookup are coming soon. In the meantime, we can take care of it by phone or email.
