If someone owes your business money, we collect it.

Business customers and individual customers need different handling. We do both, under the rules that apply to each.

Business customers

Companies that took your goods or services and haven't paid for them.

  • Unpaid invoices and statements
  • Contract and milestone balances
  • Service, subscription, and retainer accounts
  • Returned checks and chargebacks

Individual customers

Consumers with a past-due balance on an account they opened with you.

  • Past-due accounts and installment balances
  • Professional and service fees
  • Membership, tuition, and program balances
  • Retail, repair, and rental accounts

We verify before we call.

Send us the invoices, contracts, statements, and payment history. We confirm what's actually owed, flag anything a customer could dispute, and show you the list. You approve it, then we start collecting.

How it works

Five steps from placement to payment. Your only job is the first one.

  1. Place

Send us the accounts: invoices, contracts, statements, and what you've already tried.

    This is your part
  2. Verify

We confirm each balance and check for anything that would slow collection.

  3. Demand

Written demand on our letterhead, then calls. Many accounts pay at this stage.

  4. Resolve

Payment in full, a payment plan, or a settlement within limits you set in advance.

  5. Remit

Recovered funds come back to you monthly with an account-level report.

Firm with the balance. Careful with the relationship.

Some of these customers you'd take back tomorrow if they paid. We collect like that matters.

Every account gets a professional first contact, a clear path to pay, and escalation only when it's earned.

Professional first contact
A demand letter and a courteous call. Most customers pay once someone outside your company is asking.
Settlement limits you set
Tell us what you'd accept. We never settle below your floor without asking.
Legal action when it's worth it
If a balance justifies suit, we tell you the likely cost and outcome before anything is filed.
Skip tracing
Customers who moved, changed names, or closed one business to open another get found.

Why businesses choose Octopus

Questions businesses ask us

What do you need from us to get started?

The invoice or contract, the customer's contact details, a statement of what's been paid, and a note on what you've already tried. Exports from QuickBooks or your billing software work well. We'll tell you if anything is missing.

Is there a minimum balance?

Most placements are a few hundred dollars and up. If you have many smaller balances, send them together and we'll tell you whether they're worth pursuing as a group.

How old can an invoice be?

Older than you'd think. We check the statute of limitations in the relevant state and tell you which accounts are still collectible and which to write off.

Will you sue the customer?

Only when the balance justifies it and only with your approval. We'll lay out the likely cost, timeline, and odds before anything is filed.

Will this ruin the relationship with my customer?

Our first contact is professional and gives the customer a simple way to pay. Many businesses keep the customer after the balance is settled. If you'd rather we never escalate on a particular account, tell us and we won't.

Do you handle individual customers as well as businesses?

Yes. Consumer accounts are collected under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the rules of the customer's state. Business-to-business accounts follow a separate, more direct process.

How are you paid?

A percentage of what we recover, quoted before you place anything. The rate depends on the age, size, and number of accounts. There are no setup fees and nothing is owed on accounts we don't collect.

What if you don't collect anything?

Then you don't pay us. The account review is included with placement.

Recovery done right protects you, too.

Every contact is documented, lawful, and auditable.

Let's get those invoices paid.

Tell us about the accounts. We'll review them, tell you what's collectible, and quote a rate before you place anything.

We reply within one business day.
