Turn your rent
into credit.

Rent is your biggest bill every month, but it usually doesn’t count toward your credit. With Octopus Capital Group, your on-time rent can be reported to the credit bureaus every month, so the rent you already pay helps build your credit.

Keep paying rent the way you always do. Octopus doesn’t collect your rent.

Why it’s good for you

Credit opens doors. Rent reporting helps you get there with a bill you already pay.

Your rent can make a real difference.

How it works

Four simple steps. Your landlord has to agree before anything is reported.

  1. Sign up

Fill in our short form with your address and your management office’s contact details.

  2. We contact your landlord

We reach out to your landlord or management company and explain the program.

  3. Your landlord agrees

We confirm the monthly fee and how to pay with you before anything starts.

  4. Reported every month

Your on-time rent is reported to the credit bureaus each month. Cancel any time.

What gets reported

On-time payments

Reported every month once you sign up for positive reporting and your landlord agrees. This is what helps build your credit.

Late payments

If your building is enrolled in rent reporting, rent that is 30 days or more past due is reported. When you catch up, your account is updated in the next monthly report.

Check your credit report for free.

You can get free credit reports from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion at AnnualCreditReport.com, the official site for free reports. Your rent tradeline will show the property and your payment history.

Something looks wrong?

If you think your rent was reported incorrectly, tell us. We’ll review it with your landlord and respond within the time the law requires, and correct it if it’s wrong.

You can also dispute directly with the credit bureau that shows the information. Learn more about your rights at consumerfinance.gov.

Questions tenants ask

Will this hurt my credit?

Only rent that is 30 days or more late is reported as late. If you pay on time and sign up, reporting can help your credit.

Do I pay Octopus?

Not for your rent. Keep paying rent to your landlord the way you always do. Positive reporting is an optional monthly service, and we confirm the monthly fee with you before it starts.

Is signing up for positive reporting required?

No. It’s your choice, and your landlord has to agree before it starts. You can cancel the monthly service at any time by contacting us.

Why did I get a notice about this?

Tenants are told in writing before reporting begins. Your notice explains which property is enrolled and when reporting starts.

How do I dispute something?

Call or email us with your name, property address, and what looks wrong. Have any receipts or records handy.
